2007 World
Series Baseball Game Colorado Rockies Vs. Boston Red Sox
The 2007 Boston
Red Sox had a great regular season. The Red Sox won the AL East
for the first time since 1995. The Sox swept the Angels in the
ALDS then came from behind against the Cleveland Indians to win
the ALCS four games to three.
The Boston Red Sox are one of the most storied franchises in
sports. Ever since being established in 1901, Boston's fanbase
has been one of the most devoted in all of sports. The Boston
Americans (as they were known as at the time) won the first
World Series in 1903, and have won championships in 1912, 1915,
1916, 1918, and had a historic series finish in 2004. Led by the
bats of David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez, and the arms of Curt
Schilling and Pedro Martinez, the Sox made a historic comeback
against the rival Yankees to win the American League
Championship. The Sox went on to sweep the Cardinals to take
their first world championship in 86 years.
After being swept out of the playoffs in 2005, and finishing in
third place in 2006, this year's Sox team is back with a
vengeance. Jonathan Papelbon is back in the closer role,
Schilling is healthy again and the Sox acquired Japanese
pitching sensation Daisuke Matsuzaka. The 2007 Red Sox have the
odds in their favor (28 percent chance of Winning the series
according to Vegas), and will be playing exciting baseball all
season long.
Colorado has incredibly won 21 of their last 22 games to get to
this point and enters the Fall Classic as the first team to ever
sweep not only the division series, but the League Championship
Series as well.
However, you would have had a hard time convincing people in
early September that the Rockies would be in this position, as
they found themselves as many as six games out of a playoff spot
and were 4 1/2 games back of the wild card with nine games to
play. However, they ripped off 13 wins in their final 14
contests of the regular season and forced a one-game playoff
with the San Diego Padres to determine the NL wild card that
they won with three runs in the bottom of the 13th inning.
Their amazing streak carried into the postseason, as the Rockies
swept the NL East champion Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS and
rolled over the NL West champion Arizona Diamondbacks to claim
their first NL pennant. The Rockies have been behind after only
four of the 65 innings they've played in the playoffs.
But because of the sweep against the Diamondbacks, the Rockies
have not played since October 15 and because of that reason the
odds will be against the Colorado Rockies on winning this years
World Series. This will give the Rockies something to prove to
the world again, after all no one thought they would have gotten
this far.
